Your Naturopathic Doctor—The Sherlock Holmes of Medicine

Your Naturopathic Doctor—The Sherlock Holmes of Medicine

Your Naturopathic Doctor – About Beauty, Health and Aging with Grace

by Dr Ruth Bar-Shalom

I don’t know if it’s the time of the year or what, but lately a number of my younger patients have started to inquire about aging skin and even my opinion on Botox.

Personally, as I get older (I am over 40, after all), I am even more aware of the many different ways that are available these days to help us improve our appearance. Although I am not an expert on Botox, I would prefer that friends and patients alike look at all the ways that can be used to smooth wrinkles and bring back the skin’s luster before going for irreversible “big gun” therapies.

Managing expectations is also important. In person, even top models do not look like they do in magazines. I have met with some beautiful and famous women, and even the best of Botox and cosmetics cannot annihilate time….

Luckily, there are natural and healthy ways —both external and internal—to deal with aging.
Before even considering surgeries, it is important to make sure that the body’s ability to keep the skin moist and smooth is in a healthy state. Otherwise, even the best surgery will not last long. If age spots are an issue, for example, increasing the anti-oxidant powers of the body is essential.

While diet and vitamins are also important, there are some potent antioxidants that can come to your aid. Recently we have been using C-fullerene at our clinic, and it is showing great promise for inner and outer beauty as it is capable of exponentially increasing the anti-oxidant capacity of the cells.

There are also several products that work to increase the length of “telomeres” in the body. Telomeres are necessary to keep the chromosome intact and maintain the DNA information that cells need every time they divide. When cells divide, the telomeres become shorter and over time they lose the ability to divide and eventually die.
Telongmerase is a natural herbal extract that activates the telomerase enzyme. Telomerase is an enzyme that repairs cellular damage in the cells’ chromosomes, repairs DNA, and helps lengthen telomere areas to maintain them in a healthy state.

Because the science of telomeres is young, these products are not yet commonly used, and the big plus is that they work not only on aging skin, but on all the cells of the body.

Whatever supplements or other remedies you choose, please do not forget the essentials:

• Drink enough water (at least 8 glasses a day). Dry body = dry skin; it’s that simple.

• Eat plenty of both green and yellow vegetables. They are high in the essential vitamins and minerals that are essential for healthy skin and health in general.

• Get plenty of rest; going on 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night will cause havoc with your skin.

• Exercise; no amount of anti-aging and beautifying remedies can help if you don’t get the blood (and the sweat) moving.

Our clinic is in the process of preparing a study on the effects of Tenglomerase and C-fullerenne products on telomere length, and the consequent effect on wrinkles and general health.

If you are interested in being part of the study on the effects of Tenglomerase and C-fullerenne products on telomere length, and the consequent effect on wrinkles and general health or being informed of the results, please contact us at (831) 475-6666 or email us.
